Let me take you on a food trip in Antipolo! For this post, I'll show you some of the food J and I loved and discovered during the food tastings! All of these restaurants, both institutions like Gerry's and homegrown local restaurants like Romeo's, Marison's and Kampai Sushi Bar, are available at Robinsons Place Mall Antipolo ;) Costa Coffee and Francine's have drinks, snacks and desserts covered. In general, there are some Filipino food here worth driving all the way to this mall for from Manila;)
Situated an hour away from Manila is the pilgrimage capital called Antipolo. J and I used to go there for the night views and restaurants. It seems we've been so busy in the last few years hehe. Robinsons Place Antipolo just opened last 2014 with an alfresco concept. It actually had a Tagaytay vibe when we arrived with the architecture, winner free parking and wide open spaces.
I would love to explore the food court options and go watch a movie but we had other plans. Haha.
My first stop was the oh-so-familiar Gerry's Grill. They have always been a go-to place for sisig, crispy pata, grilled pusit and other Pinoy favorites. What's great about this branch is the renovated design that brightened up the darkly Gerry's bar concept to a casual dining restaurant! I loved how great their service is still after all these years. I've learned that they have expanded to these new offers - you can avail of their Circle of Friends card and try their catering-to-go services. You can order their Sizzling Sisig and other dishes like Pancit Bilao, Gerry's Fried Chicken, Lumpiang Shanghai, Green Mango Salad and a few more in party trays!
I helped put this trip together so I can only run back and forth. I'm glad I took some time to stop by Marison's Filipino Cafe and Restaurant. J was able to taste the halo-halo and was raving about it! He says it's one of the best so far coz the ingredients are well-balanced and the ice melts in your mouth. I, on the other hand, got to try the Angus Beef Bicol Express! Yum! Never even thought of that combination!
Dessert and coffee were sandwiched in the middle of the food trip hehe. J tried Francine's cakes while I got him the familiar and his fav Costa Coffee flat white. The others kept on talking about the chocolate cake and the beef pastrami sandwich.
I was preparing for the last feast and going all out for dinner but couldn't help getting attached to the Kampai Sushi Bar. The second floor was just so cozy! They served good iced tea and teriyaki bento for me. As the sun set, they started playing live acoustic music downstairs. They sure know how to create a great nook in Antipolo so if you like Japanese food, maybe you'd like it here. The original Antipolo Kampai restaurant relocated here in Robinsons Place Antipolo.
Last but not the least is Romeo's Spice and Steaks Restaurant! The food is primarily Filipino but they have regional food (from different parts of the Philippines) and dishes inspired by international cuisines.
If you were there and looked at the spread that could feed around 30 people, the Family Inihaw Fiesta Bilao was clearly the center of attention.
I, on the other hand, was craving for some Crispy Pata! The skin was crispy thin and the chicharon with their sauce was a great combo. One of the things I loved were the different sauces in the table! Two of the great things about Pinoy food are the sarsa and sawsawan! Hehe.
I also liked the Shrimp Tempura and could have eaten some more if I didn't have sore throat and wasn't so full from the tastings.
J liked the Ox Tongue Lengua in Mushroom Sauce and the Mondongo Cagayano (with innards).
I certainly haven't tried the Jalapeno Tenderloin Steak and their Thai-inspired Hot & Spicy Grilled Ginger Chicken in other places before.
I also liked the old Pinoy vibe of Romeo's, esp. with the serenading of the Trio de Amor strolling band ;) Romeo's have live music every night.
