Flight 001 - Your Travel Needs from New York to the Philippines!

I find myself stopping at every travel store I see be it at the airport, mall, bazaars or small supply stores. Hehe. I love thingamajigs and I'm always on the lookout for things that will make my travel-life cooler and more convenient. I'm super happy that Flight 001 (pronounced Flight One) finally opened a BIG store in Shangri-La's new East Wing! I've tried over and over again to pack light but I prefer to be the luggage kind of gal - with more choices of clothes, loosely packed stuff and with my own definition of "organized". I've told you about Keeping It Together (KIT) right? I use their toiletry bag, laundry bag, travel-sized bottles and some packing cubes. This time around, let me introduce you to another different set of cool stuff from Flight 001 that can also be useful to you =) Because there's always room for more stuff in your luggage haha.

I was excited to see flight attendants (or even tall people dressed as FAs)! It was one of my childhood dreams but knew it was a lost cause because of the height requirement haha. Hmm maybe that's why I'm now a travel blogger.. Hehe.

Anyway, it was a very nice and well-prepared event - one of my favorite ones so far because of the theme and how they were able to incorporate it from start to finish. I really felt like a first-class passenger and I didn't know what was going to happen haha. I was caught off guard that they even added a musical performance by Repertory Philippines (imagine all my favorite things in one.. hehehe)! Here's a sample for you - from the musical Catch Me if You Can.

This Flight 001 Manila store is a collaboration between the Primer Group of Companies and Flight 001 owners Brad John and John Sencion =) Flight 001 was born in 1998 aboard an Air France flight. Brad and John wanted a travel store with nifty and practical items that would make their and travellers' lives easier. They opened their first store in New York! The Flight 001 name was inspired by Pan Am Flight 1 (the world's first round-the-world flight that made stops in Honolulu, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Bangkok, Calcutta, Delhi, Beirut, Istanbul, Frankfurt, London and New York). Today, Flight 001 can be found globally in 19 stores - 11 of which are in Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines and Thailand.

I didn't hear about this but they actually had a promo for a trip to New York and this lucky lady won hehe. On the lookout for the next one since I'm eyeing to buy more items in the coming months haha.

Mr. Brad John demonstrated some products and I was actually impressed. Below is the Seat Pack - which is properly labeled (you can put all the things you'll use while in the airport and during your flight here) and which you can just "hook" on your seat! Well, now you won't have to worry about going through all your stuff in your carry on (my problem haha) when the flight attendant gives you that arrival card to fill up before you land..

I was impressed with the SpacePak because I've been experimenting with compression bags in my last few trips. He gives a demo and fits 14 shirts and 7 pants in there! Haha. This is good enough for a 2 week trip and the best thing about it - you don't have to roll your clothes and you'll have an easy time picking and getting what you want out of there! Hahaha. Wait there's more! See a few more pictures below haha.

Let's go inside the store first. I was super impressed with the design of Dario Antonioni (he has formal training in both aerospace engineering and industrial design..)!

It's made to look and feel like I'm in a 747 Jet fuselage (an aircraft's main body) circa 1950s to 1960s.

Prepare for Takeoff! Here come the items haha. Some items were up to 50% off on opening night! I use plastic Xray document cases like these (esp. the longest one) because I don't want wallets when travelling. I put my ticket, passport and boarding pass in there with some cash, credit card, transpo card, hotel room key and receipts. I love that Flight 001's comes in neon so it can perhaps "glow" in my bag (easily found) haha.

This is the SpacePak line I told you about. It comes in different sizes for different purposes.

I wish I had an expert personal packer like Mr. Brad John hahaha.

Okay so the SpacePak is cool because you can open one side and fill it with your clean clothes.

Then when you're done, just fold the same way and fill up the laundry part! As you progress through your trip, the clean side is emptied.

It has compression holes to remove the air and make everything fit ;)

Looks like a bag in itself for me with a handle! It comes in blue and gray only. Hope they can come out with more colors.

Then there's the Seat Pak that was also demonstrated.

It's a cool travel item. Just don't forget it in your seat, ok?! Get a bright one so that you'll remember. haha.

Flight 001 Manila also carries carbon neutral items from the Australian brand Apple & Bee. These are made from organic materials and sustainable fibres.

I actually separate the things in my luggage into plastics and bags. Why not make it all uniform, labeled and color coded with Go Clean sets

flight-001-philippines.jpg

Voila! The Go Clean Set I have comes with treated fabric that's supposed to hold all mess and grime inside (includes a big 26"x16.75" laundry bag, 2 15"x7.75" shoe bags and a 14"x11.25" miscellaneous stuff bag) =)

flight-001-philippines.jpg

Maybe if you have a family, a color for each one to put in the same luggage? =)

They also have Flipsters at this store.

flight-001-philippines.jpg

I just tried the Flipsters ballet shoes (they don't have my size with the slippers) and they're super comfy! Most importantly, the size XS fits me! Haha. Blue or B&W?

flight-001-philippines.jpg

They also have Universal Travel Adapters and many more items. It really is a one-stop travel store haha.

I got the Backjoy (orange below). I wanted to check out if I can improve my posture, especially when sitting in front of the computer or driving in Manila =) They also have eye masks and luggage tags with cool travel designs and colors.

flight-001-shangrila.jpg

Some more cool things I found - mosquito repellant (put it on, it works for 14 days, throw away), card lock (I have this one Pacsafe brand and it's awesome! no more bulky keys, just a card that can fit anywhere)

flight-001-philippines.jpg

and this iPhone case with speakers. Someone bought this and said the sound is great too!

You can also find carry on luggages at Flight 001 =)
